Ned Allen Maughmer

Embraced in the arms of his Heavenly Father, Ned Allen Maughmer, 87, peacefully entered Heaven on March 11, 2023, while in his home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Born on March 23, 1935 in Walton, IN, Ned is the son of the late Francis “Duke” Maughmer and Mildred (Crusan) Maughmer.  Sharing nearly 70 years of love, devotion, and laughter, Ned married his childhood sweetheart, Janice Lou Perkins on June 13, 1953, in Walton, IN.

Ned is a member of Galveston First Baptist Church. He retired from Chrysler Corporation after 38 years and served as a volunteer firefighter for the Walton Fire Department, Boy Scout leader for Walton Troop 232, and served as a deacon at Walton Christian Church.

Ned enjoyed life and made the most out of every moment. He loved traveling with his wife, taking part in his children and grandchildren’s lives, making people laugh, fishing, camping and working outdoors.  Ned loved building with his hands, and was proud of the home he built for he and his wife, as well as lending a helping hand on various projects for those he held dear.

The most important thing he created was a strong Christian foundation.  Setting an example for all who knew him, Ned showed just how fulfilling a deep and meaningful relationship with God can be.

His memory and legacy continue through the lives of his wife Janice, his two daughters, Beth Fouts and Jill (Jeff) Jones, his daughter-in-law, Vicki Maughmer, his grandchildren, Shae (Basil) Maughmer-Godellas, Valerie (Landon) Mace, Kathlene (Jamie) Mayhill, Amy (Joe) Phillips, Phillip Jones, Zach Jones, Megan Jones, his four great grandchildren, Sylas, Brann, Braylen and Scarlette, and his sister Nancy Hager.

Ned was preceded in death by a son, Judge Rick Maughmer, son-in-law, Dan Fouts, his granddaughter, Lisa Fouts, two brothers and one sister.

Ned’s funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Gundrum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Walton I.O.O.F Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 16, also in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the “Judge Rick Maughmer Family Community Fund” vis the Cass County Community Foundation, or the Galveston First Baptist Church.  Envelopes will be provided at the Funeral Home.
