SFC (Ret) Kenneth L Taylor, 74, Logansport passed away Monday July 17, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 17, 1943 to the late Edwin and Marabell (McAlister) Taylor.  Ken graduated from LHS in 1962.  On February 27, 1965, he married the love of his life, Nancy Szewczyk and they raised three wonderful daughters.

Ken was proud of his 27 years of military service as a Drill Sergeant in the United States Army Reserve.  During those years, he formed friendships which continued throughout his lifetime.

He enjoyed his golf buddies, his class of ’62 dinners at West Side Diner, the breakfast group at Bullshippers.  Ken loved “making his rounds” to visit with friends, including his 1 ½ hour haircuts at Turk’s.

Ken never met a stranger and could turn a 10-minute shopping trip into 2 hours because he would start a conversation with anyone.  He had a heart of gold and a giving spirit.  He was always first to offer his help whenever needed.

He was a proud Democrat and a staunch union member and officer.  He believed in, and worked for, the right of everyone to earn a living wage and to enjoy a stable and secure lifestyle.  Ken was also a member of the American Legion, the Walton Masonic Lodge #423, and the Scottish Rite.

Most of all, Ken loved his family.  He was a wonderful husband, a loving father, a caring father-in-law, and an adoring grandfather and great-grandfather.  His face lit up when talking about or looking at pictures of his grand/great-grandchildren.  Whether it was wrestling matches in the tent on “grandkids’ overnights,” going fishing, “river walking,” cheering on the sidelines at their various sporting events, or coaching his daughters’ softball team, he thoroughly enjoyed his time with them.

Surviving with his wife are his daughters, Anita (Bob) Vernon, Grabill; Jenny (Jeff) Marshall, Winston-Salem, NC; and Julie (Jeff) Stanley, Indianapolis; his sister, Sharon Bradshaw, Louisville, KY; Grandchildren, Alex (Samantha) Filbey, Brandon (Natalie) Filbey, Lee (Gigi) Vernon, Nicole Vernon, Gage, Bowen, and Rachel TerBush, Ben, Matthew, Caleb, and Morgan Marshall, Jason Taylor, and Ethan, Caleb, Meghan, and Joel Stanley; Great-grandchildren Braelynn Huddleston and Sofia Filbey. He was dearly loved by his brothers and sisters-in-law as well as his many nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday July 22nd at Gundrum Funeral Home at 5 p.m beginning with the Masonic service followed by a celebration of life.  Friends may call from 1 – 5 p.m. Interment will be Tuesday July 25th at 10 am at Mt. Hope’s Legion Circle with military rites.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
